Kanwal is based in our Berlin office where he leads the Climate Services and Tools team and advances data-driven solutions to empower global climate action. His work includes developing a data and pathways portal for the ForestNavigator project to assist stakeholders in shaping sustainable forest-based climate solutions across Europe.
Prior to Climate Analytics, Kanwal served as a Manager at WRI India’s Cities and Transport team, overseeing projects on vulnerability assessments, transport planning, and hydrogen hub feasibility studies. As a Doctoral Researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), he contributed to the EPICC project, creating climate service portals and engaging stakeholders in East Africa, Peru, and India. He retains a Guest Scientist role at PIK. For half a decade he worked with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), where he gained research experience in natural resource-based infrastructure, particularly in the agriculture, hydrology, forestry, land use, and rural development.
With over a decade of experience in Remote Sensing, GIS, and data visualisation, Kanwal works at the nexus of land use analysis, climate data analysis, and geospatial tool development. He holds a Master’s in Geoinformatics and a Bachelor’s in Computer Applications.
